Ep 08

Doubt: The Vaccine Crisis

It is estimated that 2019 has seen a 300% increase in cases of measles globally. Where has this doubt around vaccinations come from? And why is it so hard to discuss the issue, even amongst our closest friends?

This season’s final episode features two guests who have very different views on vaccinations. In Part One, Rachel talks with the Director of The Vaccine Confidence Project, Professor Heidi Larson, whose research aims to understand and engage with the concerns of so-called ‘anti-vaxxer’ parents. In Part Two, we hear from mother-of-two, Rita, who shares her own beliefs and opens up about why an experience with her son caused her deep distrust in vaccines.

Listening to both Heidi and Rita, we discover the importance of empathy in understanding each other’s trust issues.
